Refilming

I have decided to pick a different location for the band to film.

The setting is in my back garden in misty weather, this is to reflect to the lyrics of "haunting" to create a indie meets gothic style. This to create a more interesting video with a variety of shots and techniques with the camera work and editing.

Audience Feedback From Rough Cut

After presenting my video I had useful feedback which enables me to redraft my music video. Comments included:

• Need more of a clear concept- band or narrative?- combine the two.
• More of a variety of shots and angles
• Lip synching
• Location seems cramped with the band
• Good use of costumes and theme- represents the indie genre

Therefore, I shall refilm my video and perhaps try a different location- outside to represent a more quirky indie video- perhaps at nighttime to reflect the lyrics of "haunting". -This is will be done my garden with the band performing outside.

What's more after analysing the lyrics more in depth I am going to develop the genre of the band with indie meets gothic.

For example the reference to "haunt" reoccurs in the song therefore I will take that idea and create the band image, contrasting the normal indie "style" to gothic rock style.

This making more of a clear concept to my video relating band to song.

-Perhaps Tamara-lead singer- to wear black lace? showing indie meets gothic- different "edgyness" to the band. Band persona?

I will also need to be careful with wires etc- as there is a scene in my video where the wire is on the floor - unplugged from guitar so therefore I will not use any wires or amps in the refilming.

Perhaps get a microphone stand- like videos such as Paramore- the singer shows a lot of emotion and uses the microphone and stand to show enthusiasm - reflect the upbeat song.

I think I will focus more on the band on my refilming and not have much of a narrative- like bands such as Kings of Leon and Kasbian include the band throughout the video, perhaps have Tamara on her own in a few shots to reflect the lyrics- like looking at past photos etc.

Rough cut 1

Above is my first rough cut of my music video. There are many faults with the first draft such as lip synching and repetition of shots.

Using Software...IMOVIE

During the editing process I used the Imovie software, this was quite straight forward to use as I have previously created an opening to a thriller the previous year. Something that I had used in my storyboard and initial ideas. However, with this software I used a variety of techniques such as different transitions and filter lights such as black and white for the band.


Initial ideas for effects I can use for my video....


There are a variety of "video Effects" I will be able to use for my video, these include

• Dream-for perhaps representing an actual dream or memory.


• Film Grain- I quite like this effect as it is quite authentic and has a "vintage" style to it- thus could perhaps reflect the representation of the indie style in my band.


• Black And White- In my research I quite like this effect used when the band is performing- as I have struggled with getting good lighting for the setting therefore a black and white effect could show an indie rock band persona.

Slow Motion:

I quite like this particular effect in which you can use slow motion or a fast paced video, this could be a potential effective device for my video to show passage of time or to keep up with the beat of the song, where there is a guitar solo etc.

Preproduction Details for first filming!

One the night of filming the band will be set up in my friends living room with all furniture pulled aside of course.

The schedule (hopefully will run smoothly)

7.00 p.m: Quick brief to the band on expectations, any ideas discussed etc

7.30 p.m Filming - twice over

7.50 p.m solo parts filmed- guitars and drums.

Equipment

Using a tripod...

For most of my filming I used a hand held tripod to keep the stability of the camera, what's more I used this for panning and using upwards tilts etc.

Instruments...

As I wanted to keep as much realism as possible in the video I decided to use proper electric guitars for Joe and Kris, and the drum kit for the drummer- Murphy.

Microphone...

I had to borrow my microphone and stand from the music department at School as in comparison to my first video it created more realism as the band is playing live.

Location/setting ideas

For ideas me and Tamara drove round certain places and took photographs to see what ideas we could gather for settings.

As I have researched into many videos, I decided to gather together a few costume ideas for the band, the boys need to represent a indie rock style- sort of the top man look! With Tammii I want to represent a quirky indie lead singer, similiar to the style of presenter Alexa Chung.
